.I spent two nights and a full day at the Papallacta thermal baths, about an hour from Puembo and more than 3,000 meters above sea level. Much of my time in Ecuador unfolded under rain; the drive up was wrapped in mist, and I saw—well—nothing at all. Yet the place where I stayed felt like paradise, whether the clouds chose to part or not. I knew this place already from a visit last year, a quiet familiarity waiting for me. It is so beautiful that I feel compelled to share its beauty with you.

And just two days after arriving in Ecuador, we came to Papallacta to rest from the long trip. Here I am with my two grandchildren in the public pool.

In the morning, I followed a narrow trail beside the river. It felt almost magical to witness the vibrant colors of mosses, ferns, orchids, and wildflowers. Each one was made more radiant by the rain that had passed through. It was as if the forest itself were quietly glowing.

Absolutely gorgeous!!
You know the beauty, dear Erica! I am always amazed how magical our world is….
